Jakarta's Traffic Jams

Jakarta is very well known for it's massive traffic jams. Every single person in Indonesia knows that Jakarta's traffic jams are very bad. So bad, that people can be stuck for hours without any specific reason. Without any accidents or flood, Jakarta's traffic jam is already bad. Accidents and flood, or even rain always worsens the situation. There's not a single day without traffic jams in Jakarta.

 

There are several reasons why Jakarta's traffic is so crowded. One of the reasons is that people's awareness level is very low here in Indonesia. People tend to break, and disobey rules of the road. Which causes Accidents, and tend to slow the flow of the road. Second problem is that public transportation is not very adequate. Most of it are not well maintained and not very well managed. Third is that there are too many vehicles in Jakarta. Everybody uses personal vehicle instead of using public transportation. Thus, increasing the number of vehicles on the road. The government's reactions to these problem are proven to be insignificant. For example; The 3 in 1 rule has never been very effective. People tend to ignore the signs and keep entering the areas without 3 or more people inside the vehicle. Which proves the first reason, the low awareness level, which is one of the main problems in Indonesia.

 

The problems stated above can be solved by making some changes. One of the things that can be improved is making public transportation more adequate. When it is more adequate, then people will feel more comfortable riding it, and tend to use it more than using personal vehicles. Also, the government could be stricter, to ensure people follow their rules. Put bigger punishments, or even bigger fines. Whatever necessary to make people aware about the importance of following the rules. In conclusion, the traffic jam problem in Jakarta can be solved by making several improvements.
